The Capreolus Club represents the finest club of its type in the UK and is committed to the betterment of species via the careful hunting and selection of sustainable, wild, free-range animals, and is a great way to get started and progress in the exciting world of Deer Stalking.
The Club is also a key corporate supporter of ‘The Country Food Trust’, a charity that provides game-based meals to those in food poverty.
Whilst highly regarded, when left unmanaged with no natural predation, deer cause substantial damage to the environment. It has been estimated that deer can be attributable to a 50% decline in woodland bird numbers, including Nightingales, Willow Wablers and Black Caps. Defra and the Forestry Commission estimate that deer cause over 8 million pounds of damage each year to forestry and crops and are widely recognised as a serious threat to biodiversity. Carried out selectively and sympathetically the management and selection of deer in the UK is an environmental must.
The Capreolus Club is dedicated to both the environment and to helping its members enjoy a climate-focused diet.
Venison is not only the healthiest of red meats, it is also the most ethical, 100% of all animals shot by the club are consumed. Through the consumption of wild, non-intensively farmed meat, our members are able to enjoy a highly nutritious diet, that can reduce up to a tonne of CO2 per member each year.
The Club welcomes all those that are dedicated and passionate about ethical, safe and sustainable deer management. To learn more about Deer Management follow this link: deer-management
The Club takes the responsibility of deer hunting seriously and is able to assist with structured deer stalker training, deer stalking qualifications and firearm applications, through our long established and reputable, training provider - County Deer Stalking. In the absense of other substantial experience the club prefers that members possess either PDS1 or DSC1.
For those without a deer-stalking-qualification, the excellent Proficient Deer Stalker Certificate Level 1 (PDS1), is a Deer Management Certificate (DMC) that is 'Accredited' by the UK's leading land-based awarding bodies LANTRA and UK Rural Skills and can be obtained conveniently online here: deer-stalking-course via the Hunting Academy.

Epping Forest has a rich history spanning thousands of years, with a tangible human history running from 700BC to the present day.
There has been continuous tree cover in the Forest for well over 3,000 years. Originally one of 60 Royal Forests hunted by Kings, Queens and the aristocracy management of the Forest itself dates back to at least the twelfth century when Forest Law was introduced to safeguard the King's right to hunt game in the Forest.
Animals such as deer, wild boar and beaver would have once roamed the Royal Forest.
Today, with its diverse wildlife, woodland, grassland, health, rivers and ponds, much of Epping Forest has SSSI status (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
In partnership with the City of London Corporation, the Capreolus Club has an exclusive agreement to help conserve and manage the large Fallow and Muntjac deer population on numerous estates adjacent to Epping Forest and historically part of the Epping Forest Purlieu – former areas of Forest no longer subject to Forest Law.
The carefully structured management of the deer population maintains a sustainable number of healthy deer for future generations to enjoy and helps restrict damage to the farm crops of tenant farmers and neighbouring landowners; relieves grazing and browsing pressure on woodlands facilitating the regeneration of the woodland understory and ground flora benefiting woodland birds, small mammals and a range of invertebrate and plant species. and helps reduce the incidence of Deer Vehicle collisions on local roads.
Through our own list of stalking grounds, private estates and preferred suppliers, the Capreolus Club is able to offer its members stalking for all of the UK’s six species of deer.
